Prepare to Cook during Uncertain Times

Prepare to Cook during Uncertain Times

    +JMJ

    Dear family,

During uncertain times, cooking from the pantry can be a practical and cost-effective way to prepare meals. Here are some tips and pantry-friendly recipes to help you make delicious and nutritious dishes:

    1. Stock Up on Staples: Keep your pantry filled with essential ingredients like canned beans, canned tomatoes, pasta, rice, lentils, oats, quinoa, canned fish (such as tuna or salmon), broth or bouillon cubes, and dried herbs and spices.

    2. Versatile Canned Goods: Canned goods are convenient and have a long shelf life. Use canned beans to make bean salads, soups, or chili. Combine canned tomatoes with herbs and spices to make pasta sauce or tomato soup. Canned fish can be used in salads, sandwiches, or pasta dishes.

    3. Grains and Pasta: Grains and pasta are versatile and filling. Cook up a batch of rice, pasta, or quinoa as a base for various dishes. Mix cooked grains with canned beans and vegetables for a nutritious bowl. Toss cooked pasta with canned tomatoes and herbs for a quick meal.

    4. Frozen Vegetables: Frozen vegetables are a great option when fresh produce is scarce. They're nutritious and easy to store. Use them in stir-fries, soups, casseroles, or as side dishes. Frozen spinach or mixed vegetables can be added to pasta dishes or omelets.

    5. Pantry Soups and Stews: Soups and stews are hearty and comforting meals that can be made using pantry ingredients. Combine canned beans, vegetables, broth, and spices to make a delicious soup. Use dried herbs and spices to add flavor to your dishes.

    6. One-Pot Meals: One-pot meals are simple to make and require minimal cleanup. Cook grains, proteins, and vegetables together in one pot or skillet. Try making a pantry-friendly stir-fry, fried rice, or skillet pasta dish.

    7. Baking Basics: Keep basic baking ingredients like flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and oil in your pantry. You can use these ingredients to make homemade bread, muffins, pancakes, or cookies

    8. Don't get overwhelmed trying to build your pantry.   By taking small, manageable steps and staying organized, you can build a well-stocked pantry that provides you with the ingredients you need to prepare delicious and nutritious meals, even during challenging times. Don't get overwhelmed...take it one step at a time, and soon you'll have a pantry that's ready for anything.

      ---HELP IF YOU CAN----

Here is a post, from a recipient of what we do,.

L**** and I were one of the precipitants of This mission. She is right. My parking was 9 per day for 3 months. Then on top of that food cost me approximately 15 per day. That was cheap - I got vouchers for $5.00 per meal. So somedays I did not eat or made meals last for more then one meal. Had to. Parking was $810. Food was $1,300. Then you have normal household bills and I have 3 animals I had to pay to have people come and take care of them. At first I had my dog in the Kennel for 1/2 the time. That was about 500. It is VERY expensive to have a sick child. That was Just ONE hospital stay. We have had numerous ones. Some only a few days, some a week or two. Without their help we would of gone fully under!

From providing necessary funds to actually having families stay with us...we DO what we say we do!
